- Mail save-the-dates 6-8 months out (8-12 for a destination wedding) and invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Set the RSVP deadline 3-4 weeks before the big day.
- A popular mix: paper invitations for family and older guests, an email invite or wedding website for friends. Every 10% sent digitally means less printing and postage.
- RSVP cards need a stamped return envelope - a Forever stamp is already in the RSVP price. Many couples skip the card and collect RSVPs on their wedding website with a QR code.
How we calculate
- We count invitations per household (couple, single guest, family), not per guest. For 100 guests that usually means 55-70 invitations.
- Extras (8% by default) are added to printing only and rounded up to a full 5, since printers sell in packs. Spare invitations are not mailed, so they get no postage.
- Postage is counted only for invitations you mail: about $1.10 each, since most suites with an RSVP card weigh up to 2 oz. Save-the-dates go out as postcards at $0.61.
- Printing per invitation: simple about $2, classic about $5, premium about $9, letterpress about $15; envelope about $0.50. An RSVP card with a stamped return envelope is about $2.30.

Questions and answers
How many invitations do I need for 100 guests?
Usually 55-70, since a couple or a family gets one invitation. Add 5-10% extra for addressing mistakes and keepsakes.
How much postage does a wedding invitation need?
Take one fully assembled invitation to the post office to weigh it. A flat suite under 1 oz needs one Forever stamp, most suites with an RSVP card weigh up to 2 oz (about $1.10), and square envelopes cost more.
Are digital invitations OK?
For a casual wedding or for friends, yes - and they save printing and postage. Most couples still mail paper invitations to family and older guests and collect RSVPs on their wedding website.
