How we calculate
- Each price range has a market band, and every accessory is counted separately - uncheck what you already have or are borrowing.
- Renting a gown costs about 40% of the purchase price, renting a suit or tux about 25% - a typical tux rental is $150-300 and usually includes the shirt, vest, and tie. With a rental, minor alterations are usually included, so the extra charge is lower.
- A sample sale or off-the-rack gown typically saves 20-40%; we assume 30%.
- Prices are typical for 2026 and do not include sales tax.

Questions and answers
Should I buy or rent a wedding dress?
Renting costs about 40% of the purchase price, but rental gowns are rare in the US, the fit is never perfect, and the dress goes back. Buying and reselling it after the wedding often comes out similar, especially for a popular style.
Rent a tux or buy a suit?
A tux rental runs about $150-300 and usually includes the shirt, vest, and tie. If you will wear a suit again, buying one for $600-1,200 often makes more sense - and it fits better.
